Striper Lures

Sterling Mojos

  • Colors - Mix colors to start and adjust as fish show their preference

  • Depth- The general rule is "Slow + Low".  Keep your Mojos and Bunker Spoons a couple of feet above the bottom.  Let them out slowly until they hit the bottom and reel a couple of cranks.  Even if they hit bottom from time to time that is Ok.  If you troll into deeper water, make sure to keep finding the bottom with your mojos. If you mark Bass higher up in the water column or see bass breaking the surface, bring some lures up to cover the entire water column, but always something low on the bottom.

  • Trolling speed should be right around 3 knots

  • Bunker Spoons - Tony Maja's Bunker Spoons work best on a long rod (7’- 8’) with a soft tip and spine.  When the rod is making large pulses, that is the correct trolling speed for that spoon.  Mojos work great at this speed as well.

  • Braided Line - Both Mojos and Spoons work best when used with a rod that has 60-80lb braided line.  Braid has a very thin diameter and therefore less “blow back”. This allows the lures to get down quickly to the desired depth.

  • World's Best Outrodders - Make trolling easier by separating your lines, easier turning and create a wider spread as well.  The easy to adjust hinge feature makes them easy to tip up and pull the rod even with a fish pulling.

  • See the other diagrams on this page to help you understand more about your spread and trolling for Stripers.
